Carlos Bolado

"Under California: The Limit of Time" & "Promises", two of Carlos Bolado's most successful films were shown on November 15th and 16th. In his works, Carlos Bolado has portrayed different issues concerning today's society, not only in Mexico but worldwide, and blending social commitment with a new, fresh style.

Promises (2001) is an internationally renowned documentary about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It is an unbiased narration that explores the current social issues through the standpoint of a group of children from both sides of the West Bank.

Under California: The Limit of Time (1998) tells the story of a plastic artist who begins a journey from San Diego to Baja California looking for the birthplace of his ancestors. Along his journey he battles his own guilty conscience and spirit while experiencing the social problems that affect the US-Mexican border.

Carlos Bolado has directed feature films in Mexico and doctored many films including the box-office hit "Amores Perros". Bolado's 1999 directorial feature film debut, Under California, was selected by film festivals worldwide and won numerous awards including seven Mexican "Ariels" (the Mexican "Oscar"), and the Best Film Award at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival. He was nominated for an Emmy for his editing of Promises. Currently Carlos Bolado is directing an experimental documentary called The Imaginary Line, now in post-production, that takes viewers on a fascinating journey along the entire length of the U.S.-Mexican border.
