Assistant Professor Afro-Hispanic / Africana Studies

The Department of Hispanic Studies and the Africana Studies Program invite applications for a tenure-track joint position, beginning Fall 2008, in Afro-Hispanic literature and cultural studies. Research field is open.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by August 2008 and be native or near native speakers of Spanish and English. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses jointly in the Department of Hispanic Studies and the Africana Studies Program and be willing to develop courses equally for both. The candidate selected will be required to publish regularly in refereed journals and presses both nationally and internationally.

Texas A&M University is a tier-one research institution of 46,000 students. The College of Liberal Arts has around 7,000 majors in 12 departments, and houses several major journals and research initiatives, including Callaloo. The Department of Hispanic Studies has 14 faculty members, 170 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students (Master and Ph.D.), and houses the Hispanic Poetry Review and the Anuario de Estudios Cervantinos. Significant research support, such as travel funding, is available through the department, college, and university, including the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research.
