Graduate students in Hispanic Studies are served by a dynamic curriculum encompassing four major areas of concentration: Hispanic Literatures, Linguistics and Pedagogy, Hispanic Cultural Studies, and Bilingualism and Biculturalism. Our diverse faculty has both national and international prominence and our graduate students are an integral part of this active intellectual community. The Hispanic Studies program promotes scholarly projects that allow our students to gain research and professional experiences. These opportunities include:
The program hosts scholars and writers from throughout the Hispanic World to campus lectures and conferences. Recent visitors include Elena Poniatowska, Giuseppe Grilli, Luisa López Grigera, Steven Dworkin, Ciriaco Morón Arroyo, Rolando Hinojosa, Armando Romero, Miguel Méndez, Alfredo Conde, Esteban Peicovich, Dale Koike, and élmer Mendoza. Recently, HISP hosted the Poetry of the Americas Conference which brought together scholars and poets such as Carlos Germán Belli, Marjorie Perloff, José Kozer, Roberto Echavarren, Charles Bernstein, Samuel Gordon, Iván Oñate, and Miguel Angel Zapata, among many others. Graduate students are also encouraged to participate in the many scholarly activities sponsored by The Melberne G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research, Callaloo, Cushing Memorial Library and Archives, the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute, and many of the Glasscock Center sponsored Faculty and Graduate Student Working Groups. |
